Nice-Pak launch the UK’s first recyclable packaging for wet wipes

Nice-Pak is delighted to have launched 100 per cent recyclable packaging as part of our efforts to improve the sustainability of our products and packaging. This breakthrough marks the culmination of eighteen months of development work aimed at aligning more closely with consumer environmental aspirations.

A Kantar survey* involving 5000 people found that 42 per cent of respondents were keen for manufacturers to make packaging recyclable.

Calling on over 70 years of collective industry experience, the Nice-Pak packaging team has worked closely with material suppliers to develop both film and resealable labels which, together, can be recycled through existing facilities for carrier bags.

With factories in Flint, Wigan, Germany and the USA, Nice-Pak offer wipes across four categories including baby, cosmetic, household & personal care. In the first instance, the new packaging will be made available through the company’s Aqualettes® baby wipes brand.

Peter Bushell, Nice-Pak International Packaging Development Manager, said: “We believe that both customers and consumers alike deserve more choice in meeting their environmental aspirations.

The mono-polymer project has been technically challenging but we are proud to have achieved this UK first as part of our on-going efforts to improve the environmental footprint of our products.  We have strived to render this product ‘recycle ready’ to support the future development and harmonisation of the recycling infrastructure. “

Wet Wipe Industry First – Nice-Pak leads the way in label recycling

Nice-Pak is  the first wet wipe manufacturer to implement RafCycle®,  an innovative recycling concept, designed by supply chain partner UPM Raflatac. The scheme offers a new life for label waste otherwise destined for landfill.

“As part of our ongoing sustainability programme we were looking for a more environmentally friendly solution to dispose of the backing paper received from our label suppliers. The service gives new life to self-adhesive label waste, it is de-siliconised before being recycled into new materials. This provides numerous benefits for the environment, printers, packers and brand-owners. ” explains Peter Bushell, Packaging Development Manager.

There are plans to roll out the concept to other Nice-Pak wet wipe manufacturing facilities in the UK and Germany.
